Family Club on the Rec

Kirsti Lowery moved to the village two years ago not knowing anyone. Having a young child she naturally wanted to meet other families. She noticed that in the Villager one day, the question was asked as to how to get the recreation ground used more. She would visit there and never see a sole, so decided to reply to this advert and offer suggestions. She was then in contact with Thea and the two exchanged ideas .....and the family club was born. They advertised in the Villager and on the first gathering had two families join them. It was great, all of the children played at the park, whilst the parents got to know each other over tea and cake! They have had teddy bear picnics in the park, lots of playtime and when the winter months set in they would go to each others houses and do arts and crafts and play.

One of the favourites was a visit to Hill Farm to feed the baby lambs this spring! There are now have at least 6 or 7 families attending the monthly gatherings and the support network they have between them is great. They always welcome new members and its a joy to see the children of Slapton having fun in the recreation ground again!
